Wayne Scanlon, Sensei
Scanlon Sensei began studying Kendo in 1998. He began his training at Annapolis Kendo and Iaido under Sensei Dick Lab, 4th-dan.
After relocating to Virginia in 2001, he began training with Kim Sensei in 2005 where he has studied both Kendo and Jujutsu. Scanlon Sensei has competed in tournaments throughout the United States and received numerous awards for both individual and team matches.
Currently, Scanlon Sensi is living in Falls Church, VA and is the instructor at DC Kendo.
Dong Jin Kim Sensei, Founder
Sadly, in February of 2016 Kim Sensei passed away.
Kim Sensei had over 50 years of martial arts experience. He started his Kendo training in Busan City, Korea in 1973 under Hoo Moon Do, Kendo Hanshi 9-dan, at the De-Won-Kwan Kumdo School.
After earning his 5th-dan in Kendo, Kim Sensei became an Assistant Instructor under Do Sensei from 1980 to 1984. Kim Sensei then moved to Japan in 1984 to continue his training and began studying with the Tokyo Shudokan Kendo School. There, Kim Sensei trained under Tsuruji Nakamura - Kancho Hanshi 8th Dan, Saburo Abe - Hanshi 9th Dan, and Hironobu Sato - Hanshi 8th Dan at the Tokyo Shudokan.
From 1985-1987, Kim Sensei was an international student of the Budo Gakuen Kendo Instructor Course for 2 years in Tokyo, where he learned from Yasuhiro Nishiyama-Hanshi 8th-dan and Tsuyoshi Nakamura-Hanshi 8th-dan. Also during this time, trained with the Tokyo Metropolitan Police, Budokan.
Shudokan Kendo USA is a member of the All United States Kendo Federation.
